Terms of Use
Effective date: 2026 · Operator: CharyxLabs (charyxlabs.tech) · Contact: [email protected]
Plain-English summary: Michi is a free study roadmap. Use it, enjoy it, reuse the learning content with credit. The app's code isn't ours to give away and stays closed. We can't guarantee you'll pass an exam, we're not the official JLPT organisation, and if you create an account, be decent to other people. That's most of it.
1. What Michi is
Michi ("the Service") is a free website providing self-directed study roadmaps, starting with a 100-day plan for the JLPT N5 examination. Its learning content is openly licensed; its application code is not. It is operated by CharyxLabs as a personal/independent project.
Using the Service means you accept these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
2. Not official, not affiliated
Michi is an independent, unofficial study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to the Japan Foundation, Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES), or any official JLPT body. Trademarks referenced belong to their owners and are used descriptively.
For official exam information, registration, dates and sample materials, always consult the official organisers directly.
3. No guarantee of results
The content is provided for educational purposes only, on an "as is" and "as available" basis.
- We make no guarantee that following this roadmap will result in passing the JLPT N5 or any other exam.
- We make no guarantee that the content is complete, current, or free of errors. Language content is authored and reviewed by humans and volunteers — mistakes are possible. If you spot one, please report it; corrections are the most valuable contribution you can make, and we email you when the fix is live.
- Exam formats, scoring and syllabus guidance can change. Always verify exam specifics with the official organisers.
- Nothing here is professional, academic, immigration, or career advice.
4. Accounts
Accounts are optional — the roadmap works fully without one. If you create one:
- You must provide a valid email address and keep your credentials secure.
- You are responsible for activity under your account.
- You must be 13 or older to create an account. If you are under 16 (or the digital-consent age where you live), please get a parent or guardian's permission first. We do not knowingly collect data from children below these ages — see the Privacy Policy.
- One person, one account. Don't impersonate anyone.
- We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these Terms.
5. Community rules
Where the Service allows posting (comments, progress notes, discussion), you agree not to post content that is:
- Illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, or discriminatory
- Sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise inappropriate for a general-audience study site
- Spam, scams, referral farming, or unsolicited advertising
- Someone else's copyrighted material posted without permission
- Personal information about yourself or others (doxxing)
- Deliberately misleading language "corrections" or sabotage
You retain ownership of what you post, but you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display and distribute it within the Service so that it can be shown to other users. You can delete your content at any time.
We may remove content or restrict accounts at our discretion, particularly where safety, legality, or learner trust is at stake. We are a small project and moderate on a best-effort basis.
6. Intellectual property
- Code is proprietary — all rights reserved. See
LICENSE. Using the website does not grant any right to copy, reuse or redistribute what is behind it. - Original content is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 — you may reuse it with attribution and share-alike. This is deliberate and permanent: the track is built on freely published CC BY-SA language data (JMdict, KANJIDIC2 and others), so ShareAlike carries across to anything derived from it.
- Third-party material remains the property of its owners and is used under link-out, official embed, or open licence, with credit. See
ATTRIBUTION.md. - The CharyxLabs name and logo are not covered by the above licences; please don't use them to imply endorsement.
Rights holders: see Takedown requests. We respond fast.
7. Third-party links and embeds
The Service links to and embeds third-party content (for example, YouTube videos). We don't control that content and aren't responsible for it. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that service's terms and privacy policy — notably, embedded players may set cookies or collect data under their own policies.
8. Availability
The Service is free and provided on a best-effort basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of it at any time without notice. Free-tier infrastructure means occasional downtime; please don't rely on Michi as your only record of anything important. Your progress is always kept in your own browser, and if you have an account you can export it at any time from your account page.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CharyxLabs and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, opportunities, or exam outcomes, arising from your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the Service — which is zero.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The effective date above changes whenever they do, and material changes are announced in-app. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
